Between the Pipes has its origination in 2002 when Chris Galton was approached to help coach the squirt goalies with his local hockey association. This offer coincidentally came at the same time his first son began starting to play goal at the mite level. While working with the squirt goalies Chris had renewed an old interest of coaching and goalie development.
As a goalie growing up he, like Jeremy, found there was never anyone around to train young goalies. As he progressed in his own hockey career he was constantly being approached to help train young kids even though he was relatively young and still playing the game. As time went on and Chris continued up the ladder, he knew that some day he would fulfill a dream of having his own goaltending company.
As more teams began to come on board with Chris and his style of training, he was approached with the idea of running a full-scale clinic for the local area. After much thought the decision was made and Between the Pipes was born. For the first clinic Chris was able to get some old friends together who helped with the on ice instruction. He then went about buying supplies for the camp including a Boni puck machine. For three years Between the Pipes was a locally run, locally operated, and locally based clinic until the request started flying in for a statewide production.
In 2005, Chris told a friend that the camp staff needed to grow larger and that everywhere he went there was a market for training young goalies. Shortly after that conversation, Chris approached Jeremy Kaleniecki. After watching him play in his last year of Jr. hockey for the Traverse City North Stars. In that year Jeremy had a fantastic season holding the second highest save percentage for the 2006 playoff season. Jeremy also set 5 franchise records during that year. Chris studied Jeremy’s play closely and noticed that he was not only very exact in his moves and play, but he portrayed great leadership with his team. After a conversation and some time to think, he joined BTP.
Jeremy, bringing almost 6 years of instructional experience from three different camps, would soon develop into the camps primary elite training specialist. Jeremy was also instrumental in the production of our first 4 disc DVD series. All winter the scripts were edited, even during bad snowstorms and over long distances. By May of 2007 “Goaltending! Your Game Starts Here!” had hit the market and has been a top selling DVD series worldwide. 2007 had gotten off to a great start, with the new DVD series our camps were growing and above all young goalies were getting quality training when otherwise they would have not received any.
Each year BTP continues to grow exponentially. Chris breeds some of the best young fundamental goaltenders each year while Jeremy takes those goalies to the next level with his Scenario based training. Goalies of all age groups and experiences are now utilizing BTP training and its methods. BTP is experiencing fantastic results pushing goalies to the Professional ranks and everything in between, a far cry from its simple beginnings training young goalies.
